Part 1: Outputs – Smart Motor Observations
Form groups of 4 students per VEX IQ kit.

Open the Autodesk® Inventor® Publisher tablet application on your tablet.

Use the table of contents to select 5.1 Testbed. Remember that you can compress the table of contents to view the full screen by selecting the left arrow pair at the top of the screen.

Follow the directions in Inventor Publisher Viewer to build the testbed.

Connect the following:
    1. Battery to Robot Brain
    2. Smart Cable to each of the Smart Motors; push connectors until a “click” is heard
    3. Smart Cables from Smart Motors to ports 1 and 6 of Robot Brain (order does not matter); push connectors until a “click” is heard

Start the preloaded Sensors program.Move the left (“A”) joystick fully forward (away from you) and observe the wheel/motor assembly plugged into port 1. [Direction of rotation and speed]
    1.     3. Use the up and down arrow keys on the brain to highlight the preloaded Demos list of programs.
    4.     6. Move the left (“A”) joystick fully backward (toward you) and observe the wheel/motor assembly plugged into port 1.

Slowly move the left (“A”) joystick forward and backward and observe the wheel/motor movement.

Record your results.

Now repeat the same sequence (steps 7-9), but use the right (“D”) joystick.

Part 2: Inputs – Bumper Switch

  1. Form groups of 4.
  2. Ensure that the battery is connected to the Robot Brain.
  3. Connect the following:
    1. Move the Smart Cable from port 1 to 4 of Robot Brain.
    2. Remove the other Smart Motor cable from the Robot Brain.
    3. Connect a Smart Cable to Bumper Switch and to port 2 of Robot Brain.

  1. Start the preloaded Sensors program.
    1.   1. Locate the “R” buttons on the front of the controller in front of the right joystick.
  2. Press the top “R” button. Observe the wheel/motor movement and record your results.
  3. Press the bottom “R” button. Observe the wheel/motor movement and record your results.
  4. Press and hold the Bumper Switch down.
  5. Press the top “R” button. Observe the wheel/motor movement and record your results.
  6. Press the bottom “R” button. Observe the wheel/motor movement and record your results.
  7. Release the Bumper Switch.
  8. Experiment pressing the controller buttons and the Bumper Switch.
  9.
